Do I need to learn HTML?

To know which companies just want your money but offer you little to no service, or which ones are the “real thing” with a good reputation is simply priceless.

What kind of software do I need to create web pages?
There are many programs out there that are good to learn HTML with. A few choices are: Microsoft FrontPage, Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Contribute, iWeb, RapidWeaver and more. Right now Lunarpages is offering a free HTML editor as a part of their hosting package – Coffee Cup.

How do I upload my web pages to the Internet?

Depending on how you’ve created your site, using an HTML editor or directly on your webhosts site, you will have to choose from the following methods.

• 1) FTP (File Transfer Protocol) allows you to transfer your website files from your hard drive to their servers. For a quick FTP tutorial, click here.,
• 2) FrontPage and many other HTML editors allow you to easily upload your files directly within the program. Read your instructions or contact your host on how to do use this program or
• 3) many web hosts have their own built-in software that allows you to upload your files using their own proprietary software.

How do I add pictures to my website?
You will have access to an image gallery on your website if you decide to use Powwebs Site or Lunarpages site as your web host. Otherwise, if you choose to add images to the individual pages on your website, you will do so within a WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) HTML editor such as Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Contribute, FrontPage, RapidWeaver, etc.

How do I advertise my website?
I always suggest to my clients to put their website address on all their existing printed materials that they give out – business cards, post cards, labels, flyers, brochures, etc. This is very helpful, “word of mouth”, advertising and it’s relatively “free” – plus it makes your web site even more credible. Other traffic options to check into are reputable link exchange programs, blogs, and getting your sites listed in as many search engines and internet directories as possible.
